PA has a new 17-seat congressional map! The PA Supreme Court adopts a map based on clearly articulated standards.
The PA Supreme Court issued its 4-3 order on February 23, to adopt the “Carter Plan” for congressional districts. As with its 2018 decision in League of Women Voters v. Pennsylvania, the Court once again followed rigorous design principles and partisan fairness in its choice. CCFD has advocated for rigorous, clearly articulated standards in our proposed plan and amicus brief. Congressional candidates can now move forward with their petitions for the PA primaries.
The state legislative districts, created by a different process, have yet to be finalized. The redistricting plan drafted by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission has been challenged by the legislative majority. The CCFD legal team is busy with its next amicus brief in this case. Stay tuned!
